This week, I decided to join the America on the Move program. I'm supposed to do at least 10000 steps every day in order to qualify for an active lifestyle. I also get a one week free membership at the YMCA (okay...so that's the real motivation). This morning, I dug out my pedometer that I've never used and I wore it religiously today...all day.
Final count: 6806 steps.
And today was cleaning day, so I was all over the house and up and down the stairs several times. And I went to the Y and did the elliptical machine for 20 minutes. But I only got 6806 steps.
The brochure I received does have a chart that converts certain activities into steps. Like vacuuming is 94 steps per minute (times 20 minutes) and moderate gardening is 118 steps per minute (although I think I work up a bigger sweat vacuuming than bending over and pulling weeds...but that's what they say). So, if I add in those "steps" then I barely make it over 10000. But I was wearing my pedometer while I was doing those activities...so I'm not sure how to count it.
What would you do?

Even though you were wearing your pedometer, whatever they say counts! So I would do what they say and you reached your goal for the day!
I wish we had YMCA's here!
Can you dance around while vacuuming and doing other household chores? That might add a few thousand steps. :-)
