Creative Help!!

Okay, now that the boys' room is almost done, it desperately needs a new paint job (see the peeling wallpaper border, and the color just is too bright). Based on the photos in the Christmas post (the quilt and bunk bed photos) along with this photo, what color (colors) do you think I should do? We're willing to put up a chair rail, or paint one stripe, but we don't want to put in too much work because we're moving in a year. We will be painting the bunk bed a dark brown color (think espresso...like the bookshelf), but I don't want to repaint the stereo shelf, which matches the dresser.

I really need help with this...I just can't come up with anything good!! What would you do if this were your boy's room?

The color scheme is: dark brown, light brown, dark blue (but not navy), dark red, mustard yellow, and dark green. Anyway, those are the colors on the quilts.

well...how about a picture of the colors that may work in the room (like a picture of the quilt). Since you ARE moving in a year I'd stay with simple colors that'll sell...Browns are good. You could do a light brown on the walls with a dark red stripe, or one light brown wall and a red wall, or be daring and do a mustard yellow stripe on brown which would look cool, but may not be as good when trying to sell. I'd not do navy blue with anything...especially browns...just my opinion.

How about a nice coffee with cream color?

(We've also used a yellow/beige/tan color from Kelly Moore called Haystack Ridge.)

I also love this website, which has some good options:

Thanks for the good ideas. Now I just need to be able to visualize it! :)

There is a picture of the quilt with its colors in the next post...for anyone who wants to see that.

I do think I'll go with browns and taupes, but I've also thought of going with a red accent...I just can't visualize anything except making it look like a candy cane room...don't want to do that!

I'm with them going with the taupes and browns...but you could keep the green with just taping some stripes in (do you know what I mean...anything taped will be green). And then you could paint picture frames for the little bit of red accents that you want.

That's an easy way of doing stripes. I'll have to think about that...especially since the green on the wall and the green on the quilts are different hues. Too bad I didn't think of that when I repainted two of Evelynn's walls...from the green pictured in the other post to a cream color (2 walls are green in her wall and 2 are cream...it was all originally green, but the room didn't hold the color well so I painted 2 walls cream to tone it down). That could;ve been cute.

Ok, Missy described how I would do the stripe. After looking at the quilt, if you want to stay with the quilt colors I would NOT do the red. I was thinking more of a dark burgundy or something with a light brown (like on the quilt). So, I'd probably do the light brown on the quilt, with either a green stripe, or I think the yellow would actually look really nice too, and give the room a warm feel. You can even do a green/yellow stripe...but that may be too much. I think I'd the yellow. but whatever. Or, what you could also do is just do a two color room. Do the top halfs in yellow and the bottom ones in light brown. Or one wall in light brown, and the other in yellow and then do opposite stripes on each (brown on the yellow wall/yellow on the brown).

OK...looking at the quilt again, I'd say do a lighter tan on the top, chair rail and a darker tan/brown on the bottom. That'd be the most sellable later on.

Sorry Fran...I totally disagree with the yellow and brown option, reminds me of #1 and #2. :-)

Good suggestions. I knew I would get some good help!! Right now, I'm thinking of just doing a taupe color. But I like Lara's idea. We'll see what happens.
The dark brown with mustard stripe would look really cool. But not in this room. It's a small room with only one window and that dark color would probably make it look cozy...which isn't a bad thing for a room, but it would probably make this room look even smaller.

I know I'm late but I say a poo-brown, but not too dark. It looks good with white trim, it's solid, easy to do and would also look good with the existing decor. Just don't do chocolate poo more of a lighter shade.

I'm serious about the color idea, joking about the name of the color.
