Ahhh, What a Beautiful Day

Okay, so the sun wasn't shining and it was overcast, but the temperature was perfect...mid 60s. So, we did what 1/2 of St Louisans did today...we went to the Zoo. The animals were out, and some were quite active (one zebra looked like he/she was trying to pick a fight with another, but it kept running away). Most animals were outside enjoying the weather, just like all of us. We saw the Safari animals (lions, tigers, giraffes, zebras, kudu, the likes), the gorillas, and the birds in the bird house. That was the first time we had gone in the bird house. The boys love birds. It was fun identifying some birds that we've looked at in their bird books.

It's been nice having Rob home again. The family is complete again. Today, I've actually felt really tired and achy...I hope I'm not getting sick...I think my body is releasing the tension I've carried for the past 10 days as I've done the single-parent thing for 7 of those days. But I guess we'll see.

Rob and I decided that Colden is ready to start learning how to read a little bit. So he took Colden to the library and picked out some books with easy words. Rob has already worked with him on reading a few words today...like me, car, dog. He's really excited to pickup on this new skill. The other day, he "wrote" each letter of the alphabet on a cookie tray with oats sprinkled in it. Colden just isn't that much into coloring and drawing, so I'm starting to get a bit more innovative with "writing" techniques. I was thrilled that he went through the whole alphabet! Dylan did a few "l's" and was quickly finished with the drill.

Rob also started tackling another remodeling project--the downstairs bathroom (upon my insistance...he's such a good man...I didn't want to bring it up for another few weeks, but something organic began to grow under the sink...and that's just not right). The sink has been leaking for a few weeks now. With the rest of the house updated, this bathroom needed a face lift anyway. We shopped at Home Depot yesterday and bought most of the goods, so far staying below our budget. We're taking it more slowly in redoing this bathroom...it's less essential and why should we stress out about it.

I bet it's real nice having Rob back! And I can't wait to check out that zoo ourselves when we come out this summer!

That's a perfect photo. You totally have to scrapbook that one!
