Today, I had the opportunity to drive the kids around the very first neighborhood they ever lived in. Yep, I'm in Richmond, VA, right now, visiting my in-laws. Over the weekend, we enjoyed spending time with Rob's brother and his wife, Henry and Fran and little Sophia. Anyway, back to topic. I just loved driving around and letting memories flow freely into my mind. Streets that I had run on, walks we went on, neighbors we had befriended, memories of people I knew from church, outings with the kids to parks and other places. It was sweet to drive down memory lane.
Colden remembered our house. Dylan asked if we could buy it back. I was pleasantly surprised to see that not much changed with the exterior of the house. It looks like that one last paint job I did before we sold has not been re-done (yesss...that was a lot of work). The owner took out the garden beds and seeded the bare parts in the back yard with grass. It looks nice and taken care of. And I'm glad of that.
Being here reminds me that I loved this place and the people here. I'm glad to have the opportunity to visit it again.
Now I understand why my mom loved to take us to her old house where she grew up...and why she was so silent as we drove around the neighborhood. Her memories must have just washed over her mind and taken her back. At least, that is exactly what happened to me.
