Tribute to Big C

Colden recently turned 5! He had a fun birthday party with his friends at the World Bird Sanctuary, quite possibly one of his most favorite places here (a place that will be terribly missed). He requested a dinosaur cake and a Transformer's birthday party. We also went to the zoo on his actual birthday, since his party was 4 days later.

Oh, how I love my Colden! I am so proud to watch him grow and learn and love others. Just yesterday, we had a neighbor kid over, who we haven't had over for awhile due to busyness, and he just hugged him as soon as he walked in our door. Colden has a huge heart, and he's not afraid to show his love for others. He hates it when his dad goes to school every day, and he's all smiles when Daddy comes home.

This kid has many amazing qualities. He has a keen ability to pay attention to details. Right now, his favorite subject is dinosaurs. He'll tell you which dino has an "up claw" (like the thumb-claw on an Iguanadon), if a T-Rex is drawn incorrectly (with 3 fingers instead of 2), and most of the answers in his own dinosaur game (Rob and I played with him once, and we were amazed at how much he knew). He's also great at memory games. He also knows if we're going home the right way or not. He knows if we're close to certain friend's homes, the zoo, the science center, Daddy's school, and several other places. He knows all of his letters and doesn't even get b or d mixed up.

Colden loves everything about science: animals, nature, dinosaurs, the solar system, and all things boy: like collecting rocks, shells, catching frogs, worms, keeping "pets" like caterpillars and a snake, and fishing.

This kid is also full of faith. He knows that when he gets sick, Heavenly Father will help him get better. He loves to receive blessings from his dad when he needs them. He also has prayed for courage when he's scared, to help me find lost things, and to help us sell our house. When his cousin had a horrible accident with her hand, he kept praying for her and her hand months after the incident. Speaking of his cousin, he loves all of his relatives and is always excited to see them. He knows who are daddy's siblings and who are mommy's siblings. And he always says how much he loves them. He also loves their pets...especially Killer (the bunny--Mommy, we need to go visit Killer...).

Colden is my first. He often takes on the responsibility of the world--and he doesn't like to disappoint his parents. He also loves to be first, the fastest, the best, etc. Oh, he is so much like me!

I'm so glad he likes the helicopter transformer! I have a hard time picking boy gifts, but when Luke insisted on carrying it throughout the store, I knew it was a good one! Happy birthday, Colden!
