Merry *Christ*mas

So I really don't keep up on current affairs. I'm hearing a rumor that a law, or something, has been passed making it illegal to wish people a Merry Christmas. Now, I really think that rumor is over the top...I mean...I value my freedom of speech as much as non-Christians do (so, if in fact this is a new law, I do believe that it's unconstitutional...but that's another matter). As we drive around at night looking at lights, I see more Happy Holiday signs than I see Merry Christmas.

Whatever the trend or the law may be, it's sad that more people are taking Christ out of Christmas. I do think that it's important to realize that some people celebrate other religious holidays during December, like Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, but I would like it to be known to my friends and family that the reason why we celebrate Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. I've even been hesitant until this year to talk to Colden too much about Santa because I don't want Santa and presents to become my children's focus on Christmas. (I came up with my own little story to tell Colden how Santa and Jesus are friends because Santa makes sure everyone gets a gift on Jesus' birthday...okay, now maybe I'm the one going over the top!)

If any of you really know what's going on...whether laws have been passed or it's just a growing trend...feel free to comment and educate me.

I haven't heard anything that drastic! But I don't live in the most liberal state either!

No laws, Angie. Such a law probably isn't even possible, unless we devolve into a communist dictatorship. And if some township somewhere tried to pass some law like that, it would easily be overturned. I suspect it would be all over the news as well. Congress would go out on the steps of the capitol and sing "God Bless America." All the commentators would talk about it. It would be a wild adventure.

So the old ladies in my ward ARE exaggerating...that's where I heard the rumor...as a comment in good ol' Relief Society.
Hoorah for the First Amendment. I want my right preserved to say Merry Christmas and sing God Bless America and the Pledge of Allegience in full.
Whew I can relax.
