The Hand of God

President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor to the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently gave a talk about noticing the hand of God in his daily life. This video is an excerpt of his talk.

Every time I hear or read that talk, I think of what a wonderful idea it is. I'm just not good at consistently writing in my journal. So I decided that I will share thoughts occasionally on my blog (since I intend on turning it into a book for posterity). Of course, I see the hand of God in my relationships with my husband and with each of my children. I especially love to see the intelligence and innocence of my baby, and the natural faith of my small children. But I'll try to focus on other things...thoughts I have, answered prayers, miracles witnessed.

In church today, a young man and his grandfather gave talks--he's about to go on a mission so it was his "farewell." As the grandfather spoke about prayer, he emphasized the importance of expressing gratitude to God for the blessings we have. His daughter, the young man's mother, has a terminal brain tumor (she was diagnosed with it last year). He said that he often prays for her to have health and healing. But then he realized that if he thanks God for the blessings that he sees in her life, he sees that miracles are already happening. The young man had mentioned that she still cleans their house, runs every morning at 5 am, and stays on top of his and his 3 younger brothers' activities--despite the way her meds make her feel. When the grandfather spoke about expressing gratitude for what she still can do, he was able to recognize that a miracle is already going on...she is able to lead a normal life.

I love this talk, thanks for the reminder! And for the wonderful story of the family in your ward...how true it is that if we just look at the blessings in our lives we can see the miracles that are happening to us every day. Stacy
